XX-XX-1997 – Queen: The Eye

EA TO DISTRIBUTE INTERACTIVE CD-ROM INSPIRED BY MUSIC OF ROCK BAND QUEEN
Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, today announced the imminent release of ‘Queen: The Eye’, an action-adventure game inspired by the music of one of the most celebrated rock bands of all time. Scheduled for release in October 1997, Queen: The Eye will be available on PC CD-Rom exclusively through EA in Europe and Australasia.

Created by Destination Design on behalf of Queen Multimedia in partnership with EMI Music, Queen: The Eye will feature both original and remixed versions of many of Queen’s best known tracks aligned to full motion-captured and real-time animation, combining state of the art technology with the spirit and music of Queen. This unique game is expected to set new standards of collaboration between interactive entertainment and world class music, and is expected to appeal particularly to Queen’s hard core fans as well as core gamers and everyone interested in ground breaking technology.

With over 30 creative characters, Queen: The Eye is a superior action adventure role-playing game which stimulates the eyes, ears and mind of the player. Set in the not too distant future, the game takes place in a post apocalyptic era where the economies of the world have collapsed into a brutal global recession. The last surviving remnants of urban society are governed by the Eye, a piece of self-replicating biotechnology which strives to ensure that the very roots of creative thought and action are burned from the memory of humanity.

The player takes on the role of Dubroc, a hero in his own time who must overcome numerous and complex obstacles in each of five major domains whilst being stalked by the creature Death on Two Legs. The environments of the domains are The Arena, The Works, The Theatre, The Innuendo Zone and The Final Domain and are inspired by the visual imagery and iconography associated with the key Queen albums. Each Domain has its secrets, cerebral puzzles and physical dangers which will test the player to the maximum, while Queen’s music provides a rich audio landscape.

“There have been only a few collaborations between musicians and computer entertainment publishers to date, though so far none have succeeded in playing to the strengths of both media,” commented the Vice President of European Marketing at EA, Tom Stone.

“Queen: The Eye brings together a truly committed interactive multimedia development team, the audio and visual experience of an innovative world class rock group and EA’s expertise as the world’s leading software entertainment publisher and distributor. This product will set new standards in music multimedia,” he continued.

“Queen pioneered the music video with the classic Bohemian Rhapsody and have sold over 130 million records since. With Queen: The Eye, the first music game of its kind, the group will again lead the market in terms of innovation, setting another industry milestone.”

Queen’s most recent album “Made In Heaven” has now sold over 10 millions copies and has achieved platinum or multi-platinum status in over 20 countries around the world.

Queen: The Eye by Queen Multimedia will be available in a five CD-set from October 1997, from Electronic Arts.
