12-07-1973 – Queen – The Herald (Chicago, IL)
QUEEN’S ALBUM “Queen” (Elektra records) is an above average debut. Although information on the group is skimpy, the albums songs, we are told, were written and developed over the past three years. The sound is loud, with thunderous drums and droning guitars. There is some distortion of vocals and shifting of sound from speaker to speaker. The vocals are usually fine with some Beatlesque harmonies at times. Good listening is guaranteed in songs like “Keep Yourself Alive,” “Great King Rat” and “Doing All Right.”
